Pet Therapy

If you have a friendly and gentle pet that you would like to share with others while serving in the community then Pet Therapy may be the thing for you!

Therapy pets visit hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation and care facilities as well as schools, libraries, public events and more! These pets bring comfort, companionship, and a pleasant surprise to the patients, residents and schoolchildren they visit.

Becoming a therapy pet requires some routine obedience training and socialization as well as exposure to loud noises, hospital equipment, crowds, and unusual personalities.

Therapy pets are also required to be current on vaccines, free of parasites and well-groomed!

To learn more about the process visit the Pet Therapy of the Ozarks (PTO) website at http://pettherapyozarks.org/ .

Twice a year the PTO holds workshops to allow potential therapy pets to "practice" the therapy test and learn what they need to work on. The following month the actual evaluation is held to certify a new group of pets. If you are interested in participating in this workshop call early as they fill up quickly!
